Recently our Founder and CEO, Ms Tryfina Kgokong, was invited to speak about her Entrepreneurship journey at the Entrepreneurial workshop at the University of Witwatersrand. The event's main aim was to discuss developments and sustainability in the construction industry, give the students advice and tips on some of the struggles of starting up an enterprise soon after graduating.

During her presentation, Tryfina gave a detailed background about her journey to becoming an entrepreneur in the construction industry.

Tryfina's Journey to Entrepreneurship:

Tryfina studied a BSC in Construction Studies and a BSc Honours in Quantity Surveying through the University of Cape town. She furthered her studies with an MBA degree from Stellenbosch University. She began her career in 2007 working at MLC Quantity Surveyors in Cape town. One of her proudest achievements was completing her professional registration as a Quantity Surveyor (Pr. QS) within 3.5 years. At MLC, she was exposed to iconic big projects such as the Green Point stadium and various Holiday Inn Hotels.

In 2012, Tryfina moved to Dubai, where she worked for five years and got the opportunity to work on high-profile projects such as the Abu Dhabi International Airport and the Address Boulevard Hotel.

She moved back to South Africa and decided to establish her Quantity Surveying firm Triumphant Zoe (Pty) Ltd, in 2019. Her advice to the students and anyone who wants to go into entrepreneurship is to "trust the process; nothing goes to waste, the good and the bad" She also emphasises the need to never stop learning and that although one may fall at times, what is important is to get up and keep moving.

She encouraged them to dream big and to learn to focus on solutions and not problems. It was an honour to have our director share her story with the Wits Student Chapter.
